Continuing the work of honor and memory retrieval of Blas de Lezo , now we have decided that this sea has a street legend in the capital of Spain, Madrid.
I have therefore arranged a collection of signatures on paper and online under this request:
"We ask the Hon. Madrid City Council the naming of "Blas de Lezo" one of the vials or places in the municipality of Madrid.
Blas de Lezo and Olavarrieta born in Tickets (Guipúzcoa) on February 3, 1689, was a Spanish admiral during 40 years participated in 22 fights that always emerged victorious despite suffering terrible mutilations he promptly became one-eyed, lame and maimed . His life story is impressive, extremely large and unknown to most locals, but stands out greatly, and still legendary throughout Europe, the defense of Cartagena de Indias in 1741. In this episode, which ultimately cost him his life, he defeated an English fleet of 186 ships and about 25,000 men, with only 6 ships and 2500 men. This is a surprising fact and unjustly neglected by historians English and Spanish. Blas de Lezo staying undefeated died after the battle on September 7, 1741. His brilliant career assured the maritime domain of the Spanish Empire for 60 years. He was one of the best strategists in the history of the Spanish Armada, while one of the greatest unknown ended up dying in the ungrateful forgetfulness.

Honor. Stand ye think of the honor. Not treated as stubbornness and mourning but as absolute truth, the utmost respect for a possible rival and above all by yourself. We can all decide to have it, or is not reserved for classes or to anyone in particular. A junkie can have honor, a doctor, a fishmonger, a rapper who is against everything, why not?.
Be inspired by the great stories. Empaticemos with these men and women who were well above what one would expect ... Let us never forget the generous please, have had a pen, a test tube, a knife or a sword in his hand.

June 1st, 2008 @ 19:28This man should not have a street in Madrid. Should be renamed the Glorieta de Atocha (for example) and Glorieta de Blas de Lezo and put a statue higher than Nelson's Trafalgar square style.
The history of Spain can give 10 heroes, courage, bravery and loyalty but can give a real zero piñoreo marketing and advertising. Blas de Lezo is an example.

Yo creo que en Euskadi no se puede pedir mucho más, pero en España debería de rehabilitarse su figura y la importancia que ha tenido en la historia de este país.
Me gusta mucho la Historia y aunque sabía quén era Blas de Lezo(soy vasco)desconocía su apasionante biografía.
También soy gran fan de lo anglosajón (me viene de la música: Beatles, Genesis, Supertramp, Beach Boys, Chicago etc.)pero me al enterarme de que Lezo les jodió bien jodidos a los ingleses me he alegrado sobremanera, después de tanto Trafalgar y la Invencible y su puta madre. Pero a pesar de todo creo que ninguna nación debería de sacar mucho pecho por sus hechos de armas, al fin y al cabo no se trata más que de asesinatos, destrucción y dolor justificados bajo la enfermedad del patriotismo (en el mejor de los casos) o la rapiña o la estupidez humana, aún más grande y más infinita que la desmemoria hispana.

Me cuesta reconocerlo pero los ingleses son mejores propagandistas que nosotros.

Blas de Lezo se merece el nombre de una calle en Madrid y mucho más. Una calle como La Castellana al menos.
La forma en que vivió y sobre todo murió, dice mucho de como éramos, y somos los Españoles.

23 marzo 2009 @ 19:37Tengo que reconocer que hasta hace poco no conocia la historia de Blas de Lezo. Si sabia el “baño” que recibieron los ingleses por parte de la armada española en Cartagena, pero hasta que cayó en mis manos un libro de Ramiro Ribas Narvaez (descendiente de Blas de Lezo) y comence a leerlo, no tenia ni idea de este personaje tan importante en nuestra historia. Desgraciadamente los ingleses han hecho algo más que ocultar en su pais estos acontecimientos, parece que nosotros que deberiamos estar orgullosos de esta gesta también lo hemos olvidado, quizá por ese complejo que parecemos tener de que no somos gran cosa.

21 abril 2009 @ 12:12Es un orgullo el contar con hombres de honor y valentía como nuestro gran Almirante Don Blas de Lezo y Olivarrieta, que infringió a los Británicos la mayor derrota y humillación sufrida hasta la época. Trafalgar les quedó pequeña a los Britanos tras la hecatombe que sufrieron en Cartagena de Indias a manos de los españoles. Es una pena que este insigne Almirante es té en el olvido. El nombre de la fragata F-103 “Blas de Lezo” no es suficiente, se merece mucho más. Asimismo, es una pena que los propios vascos no sepan que gran cantidad de ellos, han protagonizado muchas de las páginas más gloriosas y heroicas de nuestra historia militar. El gran capitan ya decía:”gusto de llevar arcabuceros “vizcainos” en mis Tercios”.VIVA SIEMPRE ESPAÑA.

22 abril 2009 @ 14:25Blas de Lezo fue un gran hombre, sí señor, él fue quién limpió de piratas la zona del mar peruano, recogió de Génova un tesoro de la monarquía española, capturó Orán, y ganó a los británicos en Cartagena de Indias, todo esto con seis barcos, un ojo, una pierna y un brazo. Nuetro incansable guerrero no ha tenido par en otro lugar ni en ninguna otra etapa histórica.
Este hombre no necesita una calle, necesita una plaza, una estación de metro, un jardín botánico, un puerto es lo que se merece.

Decir que yo he firmado para que de una vez por todas se reconozca en este país de ingratos (Ya lo decía Pérez-Reverte) se reconozca y pongan una avenida a nombre de mi héroe. Es mas yo no se como no le han hecho una estatua en la misma plaza de la puerta del Sol o en la plaza de la marina Española en Madrid. Que vergüenza. De haber sido Francés o Inglés, su heroicidad y brillantez habrían sido celebradas en novelas y películas. Hay que joderse como somos los Españoles. Es un héroe, un héroe donde por encima de todo cuidaba los valores morales como la valentía, patriotismo, honor, lealtad, hasta prácticamente dejar su vida por esos valores.
Si Blas de Lezo hubiera nacido en EEUU o Inglaterra, a todas horas nos harían películas sobre él.
Tenemos que estar orgullosos de este vasco y español, así como muchos otros héroes como Bernardo de Gálvez, Álvaro de Bazán, Churruca y un largo etcétera.
Joder, si es que antes España era temida por todo el orbe. Cuánto ha cambiado este país, este país tan grande. La gente se cree mediocre pero sólo porque desconoce la historia, si la conociera se sentiría orgullosa de su pasado y lo grandes que fuimos. Sólo basta viajar a América para conocer el orgullo que sienten los hispanohablantes por España-

Ciudadanos de España,poco acostumbrados a mirar el pasadodificilmente veremos el futuro.
Pero siempre queda la esperanza´,de que esto algun dia cambie,buen empezar seria,iniciandolo en la educacion primaria,la buena historia de España,tan envidiada fuera de ella,y tan olvidada por la gran mayoria de nosotros, que en muchos casos,ni sabemos,ni queremos,ni podemos.
Aunque tambien somos muchos los admiradores de nuestro gran heroe D.Blas de Lezo,que conocemos y valoramos sus infinitas y multiples cualidades,reconociendo que a la altura que puso “el Liston” dificilmente alguien no ya en España si no ,en el mundo,lo puedan superar.

17 diciembre 2009 @ 14:08Me uno a esta iniciativa. Deberían habernos enseñado en el cole la vida y hechos de estos grandes heroes españoles.
A mis 42 años me encuentro descubriendo a otro “Hernan Cortes” o “Pizarro” de los mares.
Pero que se lo pongan a una calle de más de 10 portales, porque las de Pizarro y Hernan Cortes son ridiculas.
No se que hizo un tal Pablo Iglesias (aunque creo que no hizo honor a su apellido), pero su calle es 100 veces mas larga que las de estos grandísimos españoles.
Si algun cineasta español hiciera una peli sobre este hombre, le daban 8 oscars y 4 manolos.

En “Master and Commander”, los ingleses han sabido vender como epopeya la anodina historia de un capitán corsario. ¿A qué estamos esperando para llevar al cine a uno de los mejores capitanes de nuestra historia, cuya biografía es mil veces más fascinante?

Es inhaudito que Blas de Lezo no tenga calle en Madrid. Soy de Málaga, y estamos orgullosos de tener una calle con su nombre, aunque la mayoría de los malagueños desconocen al personaje.

Apoyo la nocion de que se honre la memoria de tan ilustre marino que tanto hizo defendiendo a España de sus enemigos con una calle o Plaza a su nombre en Madrid, al igual que los ingleses hicieron con Nelson en Trafalgar Square. Y es más, no soy de Madrid sino de la noble y muy marinera ciudad de Vigo y siendo como soy un admirador de este Gran Almirante de nuestra gloriosa Armada, me gustaria tambien que se le pusiera en mi ciudad su nombre a una calle o Plaza y llamandola Blas de Lezo.
Todo sea por honrar la figura de un hombre que dió su vida por España y sus gentes defendiendola de nuestros enemigos y que tantas hazañas geniales fué capaz de hacer.

14 abril 2010 @ 17:05Resulta que estoy viendo El Hidalgo de los Mares (por fin se ocupa RTVE del cine clásico; pero ese es otro tema…) y caigo rápidamente en la cuenta de que este fenómeno -Don Blas de Lezo- “EL VERDADERO HIDALGO DE LOS MARES” no sólo no tiene película, sino que ni siquiera se le ha dedicado un triste callejón en la Villa y Corte…INDIGNANTE. Así que más sinceras felicitaciones a la iniciativa y mi total apoyo. Ya están tardando “en palacio”.
21 abril 2010 @ 2:31Propongo que el reflotado y renovado Manzanares, que un día de estos estrenaremos (en cuanto divisemos elecciones)dedique el paseo resultante con monumentoplón incluido al Almirante; y no me importaría que apareciese junto a él Doña Josefa. Y de este modo, ese empeño filipino de unir Madrid con el mar quedaría de algún modo saldado al honrar con justicia a quien tanto honró a España en la mar.
Blas de Lezo no solo merece dar nombre a una avenida o calle en cada ciudad de España, sino que se le erigan más de una estatua, recordando que gracias a él, se habla el español en toda latino américa. Si se hubiera perdido Cartagena de Indias, ahora se hablaría inglés en toda américa del norte, central y del sur.

10 septiembre 2010 @ 10:09La verdad es que si este hombre fuese francés, inglés o de otra nacionalidad, tendría una estatua en una columna como la de Nelson o Napoleón o Cristobal Colón, en una calle principal (esta es la reclamación correcta) y no una simple calle (es muy poco), lo que los ingleses intentaban era invadir TODO el imperio español en América ya parte de fracasar y no volvar a intentarlo nunca, perdieron TODA la guerra de invasión de Sudamérica por esta gran y desigual batalla, la vulgarmente conocida como “la guerra de la oreja de Jenkins), a pesar de todo me alegro que tenga ya una calle, en Pasajes San Pedro tiene una placa, aunque debería tener una estatua, esta batalla fué tan importante como la de la armada invencible (aunque ahí no hubo batallas, ni marítimas, ni terrestres), como la de Trafalgar (ahí si las hubo, pero las fuerzas estaban igualadas), como la de la Termópilas (muy valientes los espartanos, pero aunque lo dieron todo y mas que todo es imposible, tristemente perdieron ante los persas, aunque luego y gracias al tiempo que ellos consiguieron en las Termópilas, Grecia ganase la guerra), como el desembarco de Normandía (que es el primer desembarco anfivio mas grande de la historia, el segundo mas grande fué este, el de Cartajena, con la diferencia de que en el de Normandía, los aliados invasores ganaron a Alemania y aquí los invasores ingleses perdieron), además esta batalla fué decisiva para la historia del mundo, pues gracias a que sobrevivió el imperio español, luego se pudo alludar a los reveldes norteamericanos contra Inglaterra en su guerra de la independencia, es posible que a día de hoy USA también existiese sin esa ayuda, pero el hecho es que esa ayuda se le brindó y sin ella quizás la historia fuese otra (otro dato curioso fué como el francés Lafallette, partió también de “PASAJES”, el pueblo de Blas de Lezo, para ayudar a los norteamericanos en su independencia, curioso… y también en Pasajes hay una piedra conmemorativa de como vecinos de esa villa participaron en la batalla de Roncesvalles contra Carlomagno, al que vencieron, aunque la piedra de participación en esta batalla, pudiera ser mas mítica que real…), añadir también que cuando hablamos de Blas de Lezo, nos encontramos ante un genio militar y marítimo, solo comparable por ejemplo con Nelson, solo que este es posterior ya diferencia de Nelson no perdió convates, Nelson perdió el brazo en la toma de Menorca que no consiguió y por supuesto a Lezo se le podría comparar con otros muchos genios militares de la historia, creo que en sus estatuas (en Pasajes y Madrid, debería poder leerse lo que le contestó al almirante Vernon cuando este le dijo que se iba a por mas barcos, pero que volvería, creo que esas palabras deberían estar gravadas en castellano e inglés por lo menos, sino en mas lenguas y en Pasajes si quieren también podrían ponerlas en Euskera), también creo que esto debería ser estudiado por los escolares en todos los libros de historia de España y de Sudamérica, igual también de Norteamérica, pues influyó luego en su independencia, no digo nada de los ingleses, pues por un edicto de Jorge II tienen prohibido hablar de este tema, ha pasado tiempo y no es bueno vivir con la mentira, pero que cada uno haga lo que considere, entiendo que deberían también recordarlo, aunque sea a nivel de libros de librerías, donde no hay nada de este tema, pero cosa suya… (en España los escolares, conocen Trafalgar o la Armada invencible, pero no esto) y creo finalmente que habría que hacer una buena película (pero para nada patriotera o nacionalista, sino rigurosa históricamente, que bastante interesante es ya la rigurosidad histórica de este tema), a ver si hay suerte y la mandan a los oscars de Hollywood (si han hecho una peli como Alatriste, se puede hacer una de esto, con la diferencia que Alatriste es ficción).
Pensar que no me estoy pasando, solo estoy siendo justo, pues esto es tan excepcional que con una calle, no ocupa en la historia el lugar que se merece y tampoco fué esta la única gesta militar contra los ingleses u otros (franceses, austríacos, repúblicas italianas, portugueses, holandeses y otros de la historia, muchas olvidadas y reivindicables, ojalá todo esto empiece a cambiar y todos ocupen su sitio con actos, plazas, calles, fundaciones, premios, condecoraciones, estatuas, etc., en su nombre, como pasa en cualquier sitio del mundo…).
12 septiembre 2010 @ 13:59Por cierto, se me olvidó, esta fué una de las batallas mas importantes y decicisivas no solo de la historia española sino mundial (al mismo nivel que Lepanto, aunque ahí las fuerzas estaban igualdas y aquí no) y la guerra no fué contra Inglaterra, sino contra Gran Bretaña, que ya estaba unida e incluía Inglattera, Escocia, Gales e Irlanda, si algún día se llega a hacer una peli, mi única duda es si debería ser solo de la batalla de Cartajena o de la vida de Blas De Lezo Y Olabarrieta, ambas posibilidades me parecen correctas.
12 septiembre 2010 @ 14:08Pedro Fernandez de Quiros (o Queirós), un español (Portugués, pero en aquel momento Portugal era España), al mando de una flota española, que descubrió ¡Australia!, ni mas ni menos, otro Colón…, ¿se acuerda alguien de esto?, otro caso de injusticia aunque diferente al de Blas de Lezo, aunque Quirós fué anterior a Lezo, hay algunos holandeses que se atrivuyen su descubrimiento, pero al parecer son posteriores y la expedición de Quiros tiene cartografiado parte de Australia, además le dió el nombre a la isla mezclando las palabras (Austria y Austral), usó la palabra Austria por ser la de la monarquía del momento en España (los Austrias), también hay estudios que indican que algún otro portugés debió de estar antes, no se si ese antes coincidiía cuando España y Portugal eran una o esto fué posterior, aún así el caso de estos primeros portugueses pudo ser como el de los vikingos en América, llegaron, pero no se atribuyeron esas tierras, ni las dieron a conocer, Quirós en cambio fué el primero (antes que los Holandeses y por supuesto los británicos, que casi nunca han descubierto nada excepto las fuentes del Nilo, que está muy bien, pero es poco si lo comparas con continentes), cartografió y lo dió a conocer, creo que a este habría que hacerle 3 grandes estatuas, una en España, otra en Portugal y otra en Australia, recordando también con que rey español se hizo la gesta y estudiarlo en los libros, así como reivindicarlo internacionalmente, casos como el de Lezo, Quirós, Pizarro, Cortés, Colón, etc., son normales en España pero excepcionales internacionacionalmente.

4 noviembre 2010 @ 10:40Allí descubriréis, en una revista especializada en Historia y escrita por historiadores profesionales, unos cuantos argumentos para explicaros por qué todavía Blas de Lezo no tiene, calles, plazas, monumentos, ni recuerdo histórico siquiera.
Cada vez que leo las hazañas y la descomunal bravura de a Don Blas de Lezo:se me aflige el alma al comprobar que este insigne personaje de nuestra historia,no haya recibido todavía en la medida que merece,un homenaje digno y en consonancia con lo que hizo…comprendo que nos encontremos (los españoles)donde estamos si así, agradecieron nuestros gobernantes de aquella época,los posteriores y los actuales dicha epopeya.Gracias de todo corazón Don Blas de Lezo por haber cubierto de gloria y de honra a nuestra España,por mucho que lo tapasen los “democráticos” y “librepensantes” ingeses.
3 enero 2011 @ 1:01Don Blas de Lezo es una inspiración en estos tiempos que corren, rodeados de tantos traidores a España como estamos.
Me parece que no es una buena época para la calle, no es políticamente correcto … pero que caramba, más complicado lo tuvo el en multitud de ocasiones el homenajeado.
Sus éxitos no se debían a suerte de ningún tipo, sino a premeditada estrategia y valentía sin igual.
Me parece que debemos tomar buen ejemplo … utilizar la astucia y menos los buenos modales que a ningún buen puerto nos lleva entre tanto granuja.
Todavía no se ha escrito el último pasaje glorioso de esta gran nación, a buen seguro esta sería la actitud que Don Blas demandaría de nosotros. Madrid verá una calle de este ilustre marino, de eso no me cabe duda.

Cúanto mejor nos iría en España si se recordara a aquellos que nos unieron y no a los que nos desunen. Soy un español de Bilbao que me fui hasta Cartagena de Indias para visitar el fuerte de San Felipe, el de Boca Chica … Es increible lo que este hombre hizo por todos nosotros, cómo lo hizo, contra quien lo hizo, y lo poco que se lo hemos reconocido. Que menos que una calle …

22 septiembre 2011 @ 12:20Basta con cambiar la que lleve el nombre de algún rojo irredento o desafecto al régimen que nos espera a partir del 20-N.
Pablo Neruda, por ejemplo. Está claro que su nombre sobra de nuestras calles. Además, ¿quién le conoce? No one. En el colegio católico-concertado donde mando a mis 7 hijos, ya lo han sustituido muy sensatamente en las clases de Literatura por don Ramiro de Maeztu.
Suscribo totalmente esta iniciativa, somos un pais de desagradecidos, y esto es lo mínimo que se puede hacer para restaurar nuestra memoria histórica.

Es una comparación que demuestra la competencia de la monarquia inglesa a lo largo de la historia, y nuestra monarquía …que en fin, para que decir nada, bastante tienen con mantenerse geneticamente aptos.
